Dear Isis Fire,

As far as I have been able to understand, the idea of Love has to do with some universal principle greater than, but reflecting, the anthropomorphic ideas of love. One gets a glimpse of this in Hexagram rituals, as well as in sexual aspects of Tantra. Of course the same principle permeates every action and event and thing. What is this principle?

Okay. It's difficult to put into words what I'm trying to get at here. Let's start from Malkuth. Physics.

Now, I'm obviously not a physicist by any stretch of the imagination, but with what I think I understand about this vast subject, and record here (in a nutshell), please feel free to correct my theory. Because it is nothing more than a philosophical theory that I share with a few others, concerning LOVE. Also, please forgive the dryness of the postulation. I am speaking here of only one aspect of this "force," and physics isn't the most romantic of subjects.

Physics is the easiest to imagine. Let's deconstruct the universe into its component parts as we understand them (I bet you wouldn't hear that statement on any other e-list!) and begin with the premise that the forces that act upon the greatest objects in the universe, act upon the smallest particles in existence. As above, so below. "Let there be no difference made among you between any one thing & any other thing". If love actually exists, then it should be apparent in the most fundamental aspects of the universe.

Now, consider the nature of the universe. The universe seems to be a phenomenon, and made up entirely of these forces, rather than these forces acting upon objects. The universe IS these forces.

Now consider the forces. They are described today as particles; particles of a myriad of different kinds of energy.

Consider the nature of these particles of energy. They are measured as waves or pulses. The only difference between the different forms of energy is frequency and amplitude. Sometimes, and mysteriously, some particles travel in different velocities. But for the bulk of the universe, everything travels at the same speed. A speed that is dubbed the "speed of light". Yes even a person strolling down the street. Each atom in the person's body is made of particles that move at the speed of light.

A further and most intriguing aspect of a particle is its charge. Positive or negative. What's more, there is a third type of particle whose existence seems to depend on the positive and negative particles. It is a neutral particle.

Now, these particles are made up of even smaller particles that have been discovered in the 20th century. We are now in the Quark-world now. Without going into the myriad of undulating quantum theories, it is generally agreed that these quarks are merely locations that either push or pull.

I once tried to meditate on this nature, and I couldn't get past the idea-wall that "it is what it is". If I dropped a ball, and asked someone why it dropped, I would most likely get an answer like, "gravity." To this day, I still haven't found a plausible or generally agreed-upon explanation of what gravity or a graviton IS. There is no explanation. Only theories: and they abound! Yet, people drop words like gravity, mind, abuse, life, LOVE, etc. and that's that. Something explained, categorized, and compartmentalized in an orderly file. Who doesn't? I do! LOL. Yet, there seems to be no origin for these terms. They're mentioned, a head nods, and a mind gravitates onward to continue with life.

I went to my doctor a few years ago, and showed him my hand that was reddening with a rash. I said, "Doctor, there is something wrong with my skin. What is it?"

The doctor took a cursory look, and said, "Dermatitis," and prescribed for me a steroid cream. I glared at him and was unresponsive for the rest of the session, and after I left, I never went back.

Dermatitis means "something wrong with your skin"!!!

Okay. Now you may be thinking that I am getting at the idea that the "love" force, this universal force, is the beautiful dance of repulsion and attraction, prevalent everywhere. It certainly IS prevalent everywhere, but this is definitely not love. I am certain that repulsion and attraction has something to do with it, or at the very least, is another symbol of this Great Universal Solvent. Just as I am certain that the thing that makes friendship or romance exist; that drives life to procreate and eat; that makes the artist approach hir canvass with new oil paints that should have been the evening's meal instead; that draws carbon together in clumps; that draws the eye to that compressed carbon-diamond in a trance-stare; that makes an entire hall-full of people into one furious entity, as it throbs to the force of a rock concert; that drives an amoeba to eventually evolve into a cooperative multi-cellular and highly complex life-form that strives to reach for heaven: from a trained astronaut to an ancient oak tree; I am certain that this "thing" is mirrored and reverberated throughout everything that IS.

I am certain ... but never mind. I believe in nothing that I have written here.

Love Rikki
Blessed Be and 93
