Dear Vada baby and the rest of you Khu
Khus,
SPIRIT IN THE HOUSE:
Quite right. "The Khabs is
in the Khu, not the Khu in the Khabs."
I HOPE that my Order does not ignore
Spirit. By such seemingly contradictory ritual-statements as
"There is no god where I am" and "There is no part
of me that is not of the gods" (both phrases intoned within
the SAME RITUAL!) there is a very subtle but specific mystery
alluded to. Too many Thelemites ignore one phrase in favour
of the other, in order to justify their own half-baked convictions
(as do a lot of people in various traditions and religions).
What's good for the goose, must be good for the gander, or the
whole system falls apart.
RIKKI'S TOKEN GENERAL
STATEMENT OF THE DAY:
In my experience, Pagans tend to
favour the Pentagram and Magi favour the Cross, in their Work.

Statement of the Day)
BRIEF TREATISE ON THE PENTACLE
AS A GLYPH OF THE SAME PHENOMENON:
There are great exceptions of course,
as the two glyphs are really the same, like two words from
separate languages for the same object. Both glyphs describe
a common phenomenon BUT THE GLYPHS ARE NOT THE PHENOMENON ITSELF,
unless wielded on Astral levels.
They describe four Cardinal Elements,
one Mysterious Element, and in some cases, a unifying Yoke or
Yoga. This Yoke is sometimes symbolized as a circle around
the glyph, and sometimes as the symmetrical nature of the
glyph-structure itself. But once the glyph is Yoked, then in
all cases, it coagulates into a Malkuthian body of completion.
Everyone here, I assume, is familiar
with the Pentagram / PANtagram / PentANGLE. Yoked, it
becomes the Pentacle / PANtacle. The differences between the
two are subtle and worth pages of discussion, so I won't bore you
here. But here is the traditional structure of the Upright
Pentacle in a nut-shell, for those of you who are new to the Craft
and/or to Magick:
1- Top Point (Head):
Spirit
2- Upper Right Point
(Arm): Water / Eagle, Gryphon, or Undine
3- Lower Right Point
(Leg): Fire / Lion, Sphinx, or Salamander
4- Lower Left Point
(Leg): Earth / Bull, Minotaur, or Gnome
5- Upper Left Point
(Arm): Air / Angel, Faery, or Nymph
*- Circle (Yoke):
ALL or PAN or HAD & NUT
The Pentacle is a perfect glyph
of the basic components of the microcosmic universe. One
peculiar aspect of the Pentagram is that it is also a glyph of the
figure of a human body. Possibly of Feminine stance, with
legs open to receive her consort, or to give birth.
Astrologers among you are probably aware of its association
with Venus and with her perfectly pentagonal journey through
the heavens.
BRIEF TREATISE ON YHVH AND
YHShVH AS A GLYPH OF THE SAME PHENOMENON:
It is also peculiarly similar to the
Mystical Christian and Qabalistic doctrine of the identity of the
Christ. The key is in the forbidden name of the god of
Abraham and Moses: Jehovah / Yahweh. The name is spelt
YHVH (Roman equivalent of the letters Yod, Heh, Vau, and Heh-Final)
whose letters represent the four Cardinal Elements as understood
by the ancients. They are the building blocks of the
microcosmic universe in this order:
Y=Fire, H=Water, V=Air, and Hfinal=Earth.
This order also betrays the what the
ancients understood as the modern states of matter (among other
things), YHVH as coagulation, and backward HVHY as solvent:
Fire=Energy (light or heat etc.),
Water=Liquid, Air=Vapour or Gas, Earth=Solid.
.'. Jehovah / Yahweh is the Physical
Microcosmic Universe of Matter. What's more, through Ancient
Hebrew Gematria (Numerology), the letters add up to 26 (10 + 5 + 6
+ 5 = 26). 26 is 13 + 13. The Ancient Hebrew word for
"Love" is AHBH (Ahebeh) which adds up to 13 (1 + 5 + 2 +
5 = 13).
.'. Jehovah / Yahweh is also Love:
but a very specific kind of Love: Between two figures.
Okay. Now ...
Jesus is spelt YHShVH (Yod, Heh, Shin
[valued at 300], Vau, and Heh). The ancients created this
name by burying their symbolic letter of Spirit, smack in the
center of the name of their god! The name's value is now at
326, which is equivalent to the Hebrew word for
"Vision", ShAYYH (Shayeyah: 300 + 1 + 10 + 10 + 5
= 326).
Now, there is growing evidence coming
to light in this age of information that "Jesus" was not
this historical man's real name, but a Title for his office as the
head of the Jerusalem Church. Jesus was called "Son of
God". At least within the questionable Gospels, he
frequently told people to empower themselves doing this or that
"in his NAME". He was strangely considered by
later writers and theologians to BE god in the flesh.
Perhaps it is possible to surmise then, that by this treatise and
formula, that they misunderstood the ancient Qabalistic doctrine
that everything that lives IS GOD IN THE FLESH, that everything
that lives is YHShVH, because everything that lives is Matter (YHVH)
animated centrally by Spirit (Sh).
BRIEF TREATISE ON THE HEXAGRAM
AS A GLYPH OF A DIFFERENT PHENOMENON:
The cross, as used in ritual, seems at
first glance, to be too choppy to use in ritual. It doesn't
seem to flow like the Pentagram when drawn. Two lines.
Chop - chop.
The same problem existed in
MACROcosmic rituals of the Hexagram. The glyph was detached
from itself, poly-cursal, as two triangles, which forced
psychological acrobatics on the magus in order to justify a united
glyph of the macrocosmic universe ... in two pieces.
This is the reason we rely on the
ritual drawing of a unicursal glyph that ends up where it started.
This way, the Yoking circle is unnecessary in ritual around the
glyph, and only used in graphic representations of the symbol.
The justification for the two
triangles was simple, however. In order to explain it, here
is an example of the traditional Hexagram:
1- Top Point
(Supernal or Binah / Understanding or Da'ath / Knowledge):
Saturn
2- Upper Right Point
(Chesed / Fatherly Mercy): Jupiter
3- Lower Right Point
(Netzach / Victory): Venus
4- Bottom Point (Yesod
/ Foundation): Luna / Moon
5- Lower Left Point
(Hod / Glory): Mercury
6- Upper Left Point
(Geburah / Severity): Mars
i- Epicenter
(Tiphareth / Beauty or Balance): Sol / Sun or HAD
ii- Circle (Yoke):
ALL or PAN or NUT (Can also be the Mystical Zodiac as long as
their aspects are understood to circumambulate or encompass
ALL: and so, the constellations or astrological symbols are
NOT to represent the actual celestial bodies that we see in this
tiny sliver of the galaxy.)
A- Upward Pointing
(Red) Triangle: Fire / Phallus
B- Downward Pointing
(Blue) Triangle: Water / Yoni
As you can see, the justification lies
in the macrocosmic polarities of the universe, which are
symbolized by the Red and Blue triangles - conjoined and
intermeshed - but only at the conclusion of the drawing of the
second triangle. A problem arises within this New Aeon, in
that one triangle must precede the other. Traditionally, the
Masculine Red Triangle of Fire is drawn first. This is
consistent with Old Aeon Work, which was generally Patriarchal in
nature. This does not jive with New Aeon Magi, who insist on
Elemental and Polar balance.
The problem of the Hexagram was solved
last century when a New Aeon Thelemic movement began using a
unicursal hexagram [see attachment "unihex_small.gif"].
The Hexagram is (obviously) resonant
with the macrocosmic 12 pointed star of the Zodiac; moreso
than the Triangle or the Square.
BRIEF TREATISE ON THE CROSS AS
A GLYPH OF THE SAME PHENOMENON:
The problem of the Cross has
never been solved. This is because those who have always
Worked with the Cross never had a problem. There is a tale
about the Buddha's birth that is supposed to be over 6000 years
old, concerning the Cross.
When Sidhartha was born, he
immediately stood on his legs, and before an astonished gathering,
he took 7 steps to the East, 7 steps back, 7 steps to the West, 7
steps back to the centre, 7 steps to the South, 7 steps back to
the centre, 7 steps to the North, 7 steps back to the centre, and
pointed up with his right hand, and down with his left hand, and
said, "That which is above is as that which is below:
there is no difference."
No one really knows when it was that
the practice of "crossing" started, or where it comes
from for sure. No one even knows when this myth about the
Buddha was written, if at all authentic; but in the end, it
really doesn't matter. But the cross is older than most
people realise.
Christians, Qabalists, Celts, and Magi
alike, use the cross in Ceremony and Ritual. And what is
universally similar is the most important part of the Cross:
its centre. The following is a traditional description of
the Cross:
1- Top point (Head):
Air / East / Raphael
2- Right Point
(Arm): Fire / South / Michael
3- Bottom Point
(Foot): Water / West / Gabriel
4- Left Point (Arm):
Earth / North / Auriel
A- Center Point
(Heart): Spirit / HAD
B- Circle (Yoke):
ALL or PAN or NUT
This glyph, because it accentuates 4
equal points, as compared to the 5 equal points in the Pentagram,
seems to have migrated its Spirit to the head of the Pentagram and
reordered the Cardinal designations. Whatever the reason for
the migration (if there was one at all), we know that Cross Work
was fully developed in prehistoric pagan Europe by a
geographically and temperately minded society.
AIR:
Put yourself in Europe, and face East.
It is a Spring morning. The beginning of the day, when life
is beginning to stir from the evening slumber. The sun is
coming up, and the cool invigorating air blows in your youthful
rosy cheeks. This may have been some of the visualisations
of the ancients when thinking of the energy of the Eastern
point of the cross...
FIRE:
Now turn to the right, due South.
It is a mid-day in the Summer. The warm sun beats down from
directly above you as you go about your adult business. If
you were to travel South, or hear tales from travelers or sailors
who have come back from the South, you would know of hot, even
stifling lands beyond.
WATER:
Now turn again, due West. It is
an Autumn dusk. The Great Atlantic Ocean looms before
you; the scent of sea salt is in you wise, old nostrils.
You dream of the orange and purple sun-set explosion
of colour you saw before you trudged home to sleep.
EARTH:
Turn again due North. A cold
winter night is before you as you stand upon your grave, where
your bones petrify and your wasted flesh decays and turns to dust.
Miles and miles before you are lands blanketed in snow, and
gripped in ice. You linger awhile and drink from the stony
well of Lethe before moving on to renewed life elsewhere.
SPIRIT & THE CROSS:
All throughout these possible examples
of ancient mind-frames, one underlying aspect remained, or united
them together. One point of reference is alluded to, united
by a journey. The point at the centre is the unchanging,
unobservable (but observing) spirit. It is also akin to
space. The cycle of incarnation is the time journey.
This is the circle uniting this personal (microcosmic) experience
of the universe.
All of this is perfectly mirrored in
the Macrocosmic revolution of the Mystical Planets and Mystical
Zodiac around the Mystical Sol ("there is no
difference") of the Hexagram, when PERSPECTIVE or CENTRE
is active - which is ALWAYS.
This is why when "crossing",
the first and last point is always in the centre:
0- Centre / Heart (Anahata)
1- East / Head (Ajna)
or just above the head (INRI / Sahasrara)
2- Centre / Heart (Anahata)
3- West / Genitalia
(Svadhistana) or Feet (Mulhudhara)
4- Centre / Heart (Anahata)
5- South / Right
Shoulder
6- Centre / Heart (Anahata)
7- North / Left
Shoulder
8- Centre / Heart (Anahata)
It is also most interesting, in
comparison with the Pentacle, to see how the GRAPHIC
Cross becomes a perfect glyph of the coagulated Malkuthian
universe when the Circle-Yoke is drawn about it. The
Pentagram becomes the very same thing when Circle-Yoked into a
Paten.
A MOST BRIEF TREATISE ON SPIRIT AS THE
ESSENCE OF THE SAME PHENOMENON
The ultimate question remains:
What is the nature of SPIRIT?
Ah, but that is the ultimate Mystery
that has been discussed since time immemorial!
